THE TUSCAN ARCHIPELAGO AND ITS 7 PEARLS. THE ISLAND OF ELBA.

Special offer for your vacation in Tuscany
It’s no surprise that the legend about the origin of this ancient archipelago and its islands is so fascinating. Aphrodite, called out by Zeus, woke up and got dressed in such a hurry, that accidently broke the necklace given to her by Paris. The pearls scattered all around and 7 of them rolled away into the Tyrrhenian Sea in front of Tuscany, giving birth to the archipelago and its 7 isles: Elba, Giglio, Capraia, Montecristo, Pianosa, Giannutri and Gorgona. We will visit them all one by one and then we’ll choose the favorite one for this summer. Actually, if you decide to stay at the Villa Tower Inn Hotel in Pisa or at the Tower Inn Pisa Valdera in Pontedera, it will be quite easy for you to get on board a ship at the coast of Marina di Pisa and make a trip to one of these unforgettable places.
Let’s start with Elba, the largest island of the Tuscan archipelago, which also includes Montecristo Island that inspired Dumas while visiting the great Napoleon in exile. Elba, considered as the younger sister of Corsica (both are quite Mediterranean, with their oak parks and wonderful abrupt coasts), used to be a kind of holiday resort for the Romans, but later fell under the Spanish domination and became a part of Grand Duchy of Tuscany. The great Napoleon has lived there for 10 months. It’s marvelous in spring and autumn, while in summer it acquires a different charm, as far as in that period it’s invaded by tourists and because of that it looks even more cheerful and merry. The Island of Elba will surprise you even with its wonderful cuisine – there’s a wide range of traditional dishes, from cacciucco (an Italian fish stew) to cinghiale (wild boar), and as for wines – there’s a great variety of DOCs and Aleatico Passito DOCG, Napoleon’s favorite wine. Not coincidentally the Romans called Elba “Insula vini ferax”(“An island rich in wines”). In this wonderful land there’s so much to see and to live. You may go on panoramic or underwater excursions or you can board the Nautilus without even having to put on cylinders and enjoy wonderful views of the coasts from under the sea, as well as aquatic flora and fauna, observing it through the window of the barge. For those who prefer diving and snorkeling, the right reference point would be the Enfola diving centre of Portoferraio. Those who prefer trekking and biking will be able to enjoy and practice these kinds of sports in any way and by any means: vertically, under the moonlight, of an archeological or mineralogical type, and it may take from two hours to entire days. For mountain bike excursions, kayaking and other adventurous initiatives you should contact an agency, specialized in these kinds of sports. Even those who love horse-riding will find here all they wish, following the panoramic trails of the island. Moreover, from April to October National park of the Tuscan archipelago organizes a walking festival and every year devotes an entire month to trekking.
From April to July you may attend to a series of concerts, art exhibition workshops for the festival of ancient and modern music, that have already become a tradition and take place at the panoramic hermitage of Saint Catherine.
