FROM THE TOWER INN HOTEL TO THE COAST OF VERSILIA.

Forte dei Marmi invites you to the sea and to its boutiques
Versilia is a land of vast beaches and long coasts of golden sand with its wonderful dunes; a marvelous part of Tuscany that spreads from the flanks of the Apuan Alps and San Rossore park, in other words – from the Ligurian border to the South, passing through Marina di Carrara, Marina di Massa, Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta, Lido di Camaiore and Viareggio, reaching Torre del Lago –all these are elegant seaside resorts, visited by great plenty of tourists and locals. Sometimes these places are so crowded, that become inaccessible.
Just 38 kilometers away from Pisa and 50 minutes away from our Hotel Pisa Valdera there’s another renowned and attractive town of the Tuscan coast – Forte dei Marmi – worldliness itself and a perfect place for carefree holidays, with exuberant villas and fashionable locations, such as La Capannina disco – a must-visit of old time Italy and of the modern one. Forte dei Marmi is a kind of glamorous show-case of all kinds of shops: jewelers, clothing shops exposing famous international labels and delicatessen stores, situated alternately along the coast that hosts hundreds of seaside resorts.
From Marconi Square you may go straight to the pier of Medaglie d’Oro, passing by the roundabout, where you can see a sculpture created by Anna Chromy – “Controvento”. In the early days, famous Apuan Alps’ white marble used to be loaded on the ships directly from the original wooden pier. Nowadays fishers come to the new pier made of stone to cast their fishing rods, and it’s quite relaxing and funny to observe them and to see what they take out. On your way back to the seashore you may pass by the very center of the town – Garibaldi Square with its “Figlia del Sole” (“Daughter of the Sun”) – a work of art of Gio Pomodoro; but even more recognizable is Fortino, built at the order of Duke Leopoldo I of Tuscany in 1782. All the rest is a pleasant alternation of little squares full of flowers, small bars, restaurants and, of course, boutiques. You can’t also miss the opportunity to make a cultural break and go to the Satire Museum on Garibaldi Square, nearby Fortino, where you can find original antique and contemporary paintings, as well as some specialist volumes of the history of the Satire and world caricature, that will surely make you smile and reflect. Moreover, from the middle of June to the end of August Fortino becomes the center of a series of events that take place in summer, entertaining tourists and locals with music, theater performances and amusement for children. This event called “Estate al Forte” offers everything one can wish.
Moreover, in Marconi Square, in the morning of every Wednesday of the year you can find plenty of street vendors that offer a wide range of high quality products at reasonable prices – from clothing to accessories and handicraft. Not to forget about evening entertainment: in an old-fashioned local restaurant of Riviera, “La Capannina”, you may spend a wonderful 60s-style evening, with disco, Latin dance, salsa or even tango. Taking a look at the site, you’ll be able to choose from an extensive program the things that suit you best.
